Introducing the 2021 SIC Leads

Meet the 2021 Social Innovation Challenge Leads!

Last month, six students joined the optiMize Leadership Group as our new 2021 Social Innovation Challenge Leads. These students were selected from optiMize’s Support Team to lead the organizing team in putting on the Social Innovation Challenge next fall. We are so happy to introduce you all to Tanvi, Tobin, Sahil, Sam, Linda, and Angela!

Mentorship

What are your goals for this year? My goals for this year is to enjoy my role, help build relationships, educate myself and others, and help create a more just world for all. I want all project teams that come through optiMize to leave it with a deeper understanding of business basics and being able to use our feedback, resources, workshops, etc. to advance their goals and aspirations for their projects.

If you could be a school supply, what would you be? Sticky note.

Tanvi

Business, Class of 2024

President, SIC Lead

What are you excited for this year? I’m so excited to work with the most amazing challenge leads and just seeing all the projects evolve while hopefully welcoming plenty more into the program!

How did being in a virtual format shape your optiMize experience? I think it was definitely surprising to me that I found a wonderful community of people virtually which I didn’t think was possible till optiMize and I wouldn’t want it any other way!

If you could be a school supply, what would you be? Paper clips because they hold everything together.

Why did you want to join the leadership team? I quickly realized that this organization is farther reaching that I could have ever fathomed. optiMize seems to constantly expand, reaching new audiences of innovators and inspiring new communities. Overall, I was inspired by the dedication that I witnessed from all of the leadership to refine, adapt, and expand the organization so that it continues to be a valuable, relevant, and positive force for the community, now and into the future. I wanted to be a part of that effort, contributing my perspectives when beneficial and simply observing how much optiMize can grow when so many passionate people come together and work for a common goal.

If you could be a school supply, what would you be? Any sort of pen that serves a dual purpose like one that’s also a flashlight or has a game inside.

Sahil

Business, Class of 2023

Operations

Why did you join optiMize? I joined optimize because I really liked the idea of having a community where students could all come together to work on social impact ideas and potentially even obtain funding for their projects.

What are you excited for this year? Excited to see what amazing ideas all the participants can come up with and getting to know more of the optiMize community

If you could be a school supply, what would you be? Tape because you can use it to fix almost any problem

Community and Organizational Culture

What are your goals for this year? One of my main goals is to be able to continue fostering the optiMize spirit and sense of community over a virtual format because it is truly something so foundational and unique to the organization.

What are you excited for this year? I am so excited to become closer with the other challenge leads and hopefully having some kind of in person element in the fall. Additionally, I am really interested for the showcase to see everything that the teams have been able to accomplish this year.

If you could be a school supply, what would you be? A stapler

Linda

Computer Science, Class of 2024

Tech-Ops

Why did you join the leadership team? By going through the challenge and then supporting the challenge, I see the impact it has had on myself and others. It has the power to really transform people and help them grow. I wanted to have a larger part in such an amazing process and organization as a whole.

What are your goals for this year? Connect with more people in optiMize, build out some internal projects for optiMize, and help the project teams along their journey.

If you could be a school supply, what would you be? Colored Pencils
